Option-based Capacity Planning for Semiconductor Manufacturing

Long -term Abstract Due to high cost of capaciiy investmen!, many semiconductor manufacturing companies have exhibited the need to pursuit innovative capacicv plans and planning methods. In this paper. a case study of option-based capaciry planning is presented. Three issues ore addressed: estimation of prodnction cost parameters, valuation of capaciiy, and analysis design . I f is shown that the optionbased appvoach, in long-term, could generate a capaciiy plan that requires less investment, but generates higher operating income.
